Rezoning Proposal for Chaparral High School Attendance Area

The Clark County School District is considering a rezoning proposal that would shift sections of Chaparral High School’s attendance zone to Valley High School and Las Vegas High School.

New Chaparral campus will hold fewer students, prompting rezoning proposal

The Clark County School District is considering a rezoning proposal that would shift sections of Chaparral High School’s attendance zone to Valley High School and Las Vegas High School. This change comes as the district prepares to construct a new, smaller building to replace the existing 52-year-old facility, which currently accommodates approximately 1,900 students in a space meant for 2,500.

According to Tracy Murphy, the district’s director of demographics, zoning, and GIS, the new school, designed to hold about 1,800 students, will be built on the current site near Flamingo and Sandhill roads. As part of the proposal, Valley High School is also expected to take in students from pockets currently in other attendance zones. This multischool rezoning plan is still in early discussions and will be reviewed through the spring, with recommendations set to be submitted to the school board for final approval.
