LAS VEGAS, NV — In a significant advancement for autonomous transportation, the Nevada Transportation Authority (NTA) has granted commercial permits that will allow between 7,000 and 8,000 driverless taxis to operate on public roads in Clark County over the next year. This regulatory approval enables companies such as Waymo and Amazon-affiliated Zoox to expand their ride-hailing services throughout the Las Vegas Valley.
The newly authorized operations will extend beyond previously established geofenced pilot routes to include key areas such as the Las Vegas Boulevard Resort Corridor, downtown Las Vegas, and access routes to Harry Reid International Airport. The NTA mandates that these vehicles must have real-time telemetry and fleet tracking systems and adhere to strict reporting obligations, including incident reporting within two hours of occurrence.
