Amy Jean Nobles, a Las Vegas parent and founder of the Slow Down Vegas movement, is calling for the implementation of rubber speed cushions and raised crosswalks around local school campuses to protect students from speeding drivers. Her initiative includes a pilot program targeting ten schools within a 90-day timeframe, focusing initially on the quick deployment of rubber speed cushions that allow wider emergency vehicles to pass without disruption.
Nobles emphasizes the potential impact on drivers, stating that encountering these cushions would deliver a noticeable jolt to their vehicles. She is motivated by traffic crash statistics from the Clark County School District, which recorded 432 student-related accidents in the 2025-26 school year, prompting her to seek enhanced safety measures. Nobles is asking city and county officials to fund this initiative, monitoring the results at the pilot locations and aiming for broader implementation if successful. To rally support, she has started an online petition, hoping for a response from local leaders by October 23.
