Becky Bird’s journey from an abusive relationship to seeking safety culminated in the opening of One Safe Place, Nevada’s inaugural affiliated family justice center, on October 15, 2026. Located in Las Vegas, this center brings together over 20 community organizations, offering a consolidated support system for survivors of domestic violence.
Bird, who utilized SafeNest’s services in 2024, expressed the importance of having a single location that can offer guidance, legal resources, and emotional support. SafeNest CEO Liz Ortenburger highlighted the need for such centers, noting they can significantly reduce the time needed for survivors to access essential services. Funded by a historic $9 million from the state, the facility aims to double the number of survivors served annually, addressing the ongoing issue of domestic violence in Clark County.
