Health District Confirms First Case of Clade I Mpox in Clark County Resident With No Travel History

LAS VEGAS, NV — The Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) has announced the identification of the first local case of Clade I mpox in a Clark County resident, a significant development for public health officials in the Las Vegas Valley. The affected individual was confirmed positive through clinical assessments and lab tests, with health officials noting that there was no recent travel outside the state or internationally. This indicates that the infection was contracted locally.

In response to the discovery, which follows alerts from federal health monitoring agencies, SNHD has implemented enhanced contact tracing and provided clinical guidance to local healthcare facilities, including hospitals, urgent care clinics, and community health centers. With transmission primarily occurring through close physical contact, health authorities are urging clinicians to promptly identify and report any suspected cases, particularly those displaying symptoms such as fever and rashes. Vaccination efforts are also being communicated to high-risk groups and healthcare workers through available JYNNEOS vaccination clinics across the region.
