In Las Vegas, the collaboration between Metallica and the Red Cross has attracted numerous fans to give blood for the first time. So far, 640 units of blood have been collected during the donation drive, with 389 units coming from first-time donors, representing about 61% of the total. Organizers initially aimed for 300 donations over the two-week event, but the site at Fashion Show Las Vegas has averaged 64 donations per day since opening on September 28.
Local hospitals will benefit significantly from the contributions, particularly from type O donors who supplied 218 units, crucial for emergency situations. Rachel Flanigan from the Southern Nevada Chapter of the American Red Cross expressed hope that the enthusiasm from first-time donors will extend beyond this event. The Red Cross partnered with Metallica’s All Within My Hands foundation to promote this initiative alongside the band’s residency at Sphere, offering fans unique experiences and rewards for participating.
